Three suspected forgery experts were arrested by the Adamawa State Police for issuing fake appointment letters to unsuspecting applicants seeking employment into the state civil service.
The suspected fraudsters Muhammed Ahmed Attahir, 31, and Abdulrahman Bashir Ahmad, 23 both residents of Rabe Street, Bako Ward, Yola South LGA were arrested on the 29th of June,2024 after a tip off.
A statement by the State Police Command indicates that the police acting on a complain by the Executive Chairman of Primary Health Care Development Agency,Dr Suleiman Bashir, arrested the suspects including a staff of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission who aided the crime by conducting data capture to smuggle the fake list on the payroll of the Agency.
Acccording to the command, 1 HP laptop, thumbprint machine, and four fake appointment letters were recovered from the suspects and now treated as exhibits.
The suspects were also said to have been collecting between 400,000 to 500,000 from the unsuspecting desperate applicants.
Police investigation reveals that the culprits and their collaborators had issued fake letters of Appointment to over 10 victims, collecting over N400,000 from each.
Police Public Relations Officer,SP Suleiman Nguroje said investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and advised the general public to be watchful and report any suspicious characters around them to the police.
