Adamawa State Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman, has rounded up prison decongestion at 3 Correctional centres in Yola, Adamawa state.

Justice Hafsat who heads the Justice Delivery Committee visited Yolde Pate known as Yola New, Yola Old and Jimeta Correctional Centers and discharged no fewer than 100 inmates awaiting trial and convicts serving various prison terms.

The Committee also granted bail to 54 inmates both awaiting trial, convicts and as well reviewed sentences and convicted several others.

Several inmates awaiting trial were summarily tried and convicted after they had pleaded guilty to the offences of mostly theft and other minor offences.
The JDC sentenced some inmates to community service at police stations and health centres.

Addressing the beneficiaries shortly after the exercise, the Chief Judge, said that the committee has tampered justice with mercy and urged them to “go and sin no more”

The CJ however advised them to be good citizens whenever they get back to the society and engage in legal businesses to earn a living and warned them not to engage in crime again.

She told them that the court or committee will not be lenient to anyone re-arrested for any crime, urging them to justice to the committee since the committee has done justice to them.
