Adamawa State Greenlights Transformative Yola-Borong Road Project
As part of efforts to modernise towns and villages in order to stimulate the socio-economic activities of the people, the Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the reconstruction of a 44-km road from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Damare to Borong, the Headquarters of Borrong Development Area in Demsa Government, at a cost of N836 million.
This was the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and held on November 29, 2023, at the Government House.
Briefing Journalists Shortly after the meeting, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, disclosed that the project was awarded to Hydro Source and Resource Nigeria Limited and has a completion period of 12 months.
Yola-Borrong Road has suffered neglect over the years until recently when it was considered for rehabilitation under the RAMP State and World Bank collaborative efforts, which gave the road a facelift until this administration’s gracious consideration for its reconstruction.
Garba Pella revealed that the reconstruction project had been awarded to Hydro Source and Resource Nigeria Limited, with an expected completion period of 12 months.
The long-neglected Yola-Borrong road, previously afflicted by a lack of maintenance, will witness a rejuvenation owing to the state and the World Bank’s collaborative efforts under the RAMP initiative, further augmented by the present administration’s compassionate focus on its comprehensive reconstruction.
This revitalization initiative became imperative due to the road’s prolonged neglect, resulting in the deterioration of critical infrastructure elements such as culverts and drainages, significantly impacted by recurrent flooding.
Before this intervention, most of the culverts and drainages had collapsed due to excessive floods.
In the same vein, the council has approved the N117m variation for the construction of a modern laboratory at Specialist Hospital, Yola.
The reconstruction stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to bolstering essential transportation arteries, ensuring safer and more efficient passage for residents and commuters alike.
Dr Umar Garba Pella elucidated that the project, initially valued at over N578 million, underwent a revision to accommodate the escalated costs of building materials, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure within the state.
Moreover, ongoing projects, notably rural electrification initiatives, have been earmarked for completion by December 2023.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had earlier reassured communities benefiting from these projects, promising them a celebratory Christmas illuminated by the glow of electrification within their localities.
The resolute commitment demonstrated by the Adamawa State Executive Council towards infrastructure development underscores a pivotal stride towards fostering socio-economic growth and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
Meanwhile, some ongoing projects especially rural electrification projects had earlier received December 2023 datelines as Governor Fintiri had assured the benefiting communities of celebrating next Christmas festival with lights in their localities.
