Nigerian troops have arrested one Alhaji Nafi’u Yahaya, who is alleged to have led a gang of kidnappers to abduct and subsequently killed some family members of the Emir of Mutum Biyu, Taraba State, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Justice Sani Sulaiman Duna last year.
Recall that in February 2023, kidnappers had abducted the wives and children of the traditional ruler in his private residence in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital. Days later, the assailants killed them.
The arrest of Yahaya was confirmed in a post by a security expert cum Conflict and Crisis Journalist in the Northwest region of Nigeria, Bakatsine, on Saturday morning.
Attached with the post is a video of the interrogation of the suspect, who spoke in the Hausa language where he admitted to the crime.
According to Bakatsine, Yahaya was the former accountant of Mutum Biyu Emirate Council in Gassol LGA, Taraba State.
He opined that the attack on the traditional ruler’s family was reportedly motivated by Yahaya’s dismissal from service.
