Cross Border Banditry: Taraba seeks synergy with Adamawa over banditry

By our editors

Worried about the increasing activities of Bandits in the Northern part of Taraba State, the Chairman of Zing Local Government Council Hon Titus Davoro has appealed to Taraba and Adamawa State Governments on the need to synergize in operations so as to close in on the Bandits suspected to have built an international camp in the mountains.

The Bandits suspected to be highly organised kidnappers now control villages in Yorro and Zing Local Government councils.
Mr Titus Davoro who spoke to New Herald Magazine in a telephone interview expressed concern over the raid in some of his communities bordering Adamawa State.
According to the chairman while Taraba State is providing joint Security patrol including marshal and other local hunters and vigilante groups, the bandits always beat the security network by crossing to the hilly areas of Adamawa through Tola Binyeri-Jereng hills to escape the Taraba security operations.
He lamented that it was a very dicey situation for some of the communities as the bandits raid these communities unhindered.
In a recent operation by the bandits, they killed one person and burnt a village in the area.
An eye witness who spoke to our correspondent on phone said the bandits in their numbers moves from one village to the other collecting foods, animals and money from the locals and no security personnel to confront them thus leaving the villagers to the mercy of the bandits.
Mr Davoro, the executive chairman of Zing Local Government therefore appeal to Adamawa state government to step up patrol on the Yola -binyeri- Jereng axis and extend same to Ganye-gurum-Gumti hills where the bandits are said to be having an international camp.
He said Lamma and Dindin are constantly under attack and the bandits always cross over to Adamawa side when security operatives pursue them.
According to the Chairman, only synergy or joint border patrol between the two states could resolve the complex security situation in the area.
The chain of mountain between Taraba and adamawa, stretches to Jalingo through to Dakka and the bandits have a safe heaven in those mountains where they operate unhindered.
Few weeks ago 5 communities in Yorro local government were raided,a monarch his police guards and clergies were kidnapped. While some have been released, majority of the people are still in the custody of the bandits who sent a strong warning to the Taraba State government. to either pay ransom or they kill all the kidnapped persons
