Farmers/Herders Clash: 3 killed,8 Injured in Kodomun Community Adamawa State

A renewed hostility between farmers and Herders in Kodomun Community, Demsa Local Governement Area of Adamawa State has claimed the lives of 3 people with 8 others critically injured.
The Police Public Relations Officer,SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed the incident but however said the combined security teams dispatched to area have restored normalcy to the area with no arrest so far made.
The clash, a reccuring decimal had over time claimed several lives of both people, livestock and properties worth millions of naira destroyed in similar circumstances.

The recent development, is said to have been triggered following alleged killing of a youth in Kodomun by suspected herders and the crisis escalated to the neighbouring Communities of Kudiri,Sabonlayi, Kwayine and Gorogbakai villages.

Addressing an enlarged meeting at the palace the Hama Batta,His Royal Majesty,Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke, the Executive Chairman of Demsa Local Governement Council, Akham Jalo, appealed for calmn and urged the stakeholders to fashion out lasting solution to the lingering problem.

He blamed both the farmers and the herders of concealing the truth over the causes of the lingering crisis noting that he will not spare anybody found to have been involved in the problem.

While urging the farmers to always report destruction of their crops to the authorities for compensation, he warned the herders to restrain from grazing around farm areas to avoid cattles straying into farms.

Earlier in his remarks, the Hama Batta, His Royal Majesty, Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke resolved among other things that the state government directives that herders withdraw their Cattle during cropping and rainy season until after harvest in February every year must be holistically complied with and directed the herders to act promptly.

He noted that if the herders had complied with the state governement directive, the community would have been leaving peacefully and managing the prevailing hardship and not compounding the situation with destruction of lives and properties.

During the meeting, both leaders of the waring groups were directed fish out the culprits and submit their names for prosecution as both sides knew the trouble makers amongst them and those who triggered the recent clashes.

Both the council Chairman,Hon.Akham Jalo and His Royal Majesty, Homun Alhamdu Gladstone Teneke opined that identifying the principal suspects and prosecuting them accordingly would serve as deterant to others that would like to take the laws into their hands and tasked the Community to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, togetherness and embrace peace.

Expressing concern of the governement on the crisis, the Chairman of Demsa Local Governement Akham Jalo said Kodomun Community has become a flashpoint, warning that his Administration will not compromise the peace initiative of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and assured that he would collaborate with the traditional rulers, the security, Ardos and farmers to resolve this lingering crisis.

The Chairman who presided over the security meeting, however appealed to the leaders of the waring communities to prevail on their subjects to key into the resolutions adopted during the meeting with a view to finding lasting peace and immediate return of normalcy to the Area.

He thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his support and timely response to the crisis, noting that the proactive intervention of the security agents have assisted in containing the situation.

He sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives in the incidence and prayed for the repose of their souls.

At the enlarge security meeting, were the Administrators of Bidoma and Borrong Development Areas as well as Directors and heads of Security agencies.
