The management of Yobe State University regrets to inform the public that there was a fire outbreak at the New Females Hostel A of the University.
The fire which started at about 19:00 of Tuesday, 13th February 2024 has been put under control by men of the YSU and the Yobe State Fire Service.
All the students were evacuated safely and there was no mortality arising from the fire. Some students were, however, affected by the trauma of the incidence and briefly got admitted at the Yobe State University Clinic, and the Yobe State Specialist Hospital Damaturu as directed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura.
The cause of the incident is yet to be known however, the building was completely destroyed as a result of the conflagration.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura has been working with both the Security Division and Fire Service of the University to find out the cause of the disaster and also to bring a lasting solution to the problem.
TheVice-Chancellor also appreciated the efforts of both staff and students, University Community and all stakeholders who have called to clarify or support the University more particularly, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). SEMA emergency rescue team was at the scene of the incidence and did the needful. The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the visit by the Yobe State Government, represented by the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Baba Mallam Wali, Hon. Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Mairo Amshi, and the Security Adviser General Abdusalam among others.
