There is an appreciable reduction in prices of food items in most of the markets across Adamawa state.
New Herald Checks confirm that the crash in the prices is as a result of government policy of control of massive sales and movement of grains outside the state.
This is apart from lack of adequate finances in the hands the people to buy the grains.
The activities of middlemen who influence prices on food stuff to entice farmers to sale even on the farm was highly noted as responsible and having identified this, government should step up measures to block all routes where such grains are moved out of the state or the country.
According to our market checks, a bag of maize which was hitherto sold at between 55,000 and 60,000 depending on the market location has suddenly nose dived to between 34,000 to 40,000 Naira.
G/corn is still relatively higher due to its premium and economic viability.
The demand for g/corn by those who brew local beer(burkutu) is considerably determining the market price for g/corn.
However, the price has drop significantly in all the markets, a bag goes for between 50,000 and 55,000 as against 58,000 and 65,000 in most markets in the last few weeks.
