The current economic hardships, social and humanitarian crisis experienced in the country is resultant consequences of the sudden removal of subsidy on petroleum products without proper mitigation arrangements to cushion the expected negative consequences on the people.
The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Adamawa State Chapter,Comrade Emmanuel Fashe who stated this in a Press briefing in Yola, Adamawa State, emphasized that the hasty removal of the subsidy without complimentary measures to cushion the effects by the federal government is responsible for the hardships and difficulties experienced in the country.
Fashe while assessing the success of the nation wide protest however commended Adamawa State Chapter for the huge success the protest recorded in the State and appealed to members to await further directives on or before the March 13th dateline to the Federal Government.
He stated further that the Federal Government has consistently failed to meet up on her side of the obligations after several agreements reached with the organized labour.
He said, though some states especially Adamawa State has towed the path of mitigating the situation, the current situation are as a result poor and untimely implementation of policies by the present administration that has escalated the situation noting that the situation is beyond the states administration,hence the protests across the country.
In a swift response to the nation wide protest,
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration has taken responsibility for the hardship assuring that the Federal Government is working to ensure an immediate end to the crisis.
President Tinubu stressed his dedication to leading Nigeria towards economic and social progress and appealed to the Labour Union to sheath their swords and join the government in providing lasting measures to end the hardship.
The president insisted that there was light at the end of the tunnel, and he takes full responsibility for the current worrisome situation in Nigeria.
