(By Dennis Kakaba and Zare Baba)
A silent revolutionary action from the Kuteb Nation has began as Kuteb Sons and Daughters serving in various appointive positions in Governor Kefas Agbu’s governement have started resigning from the government.
The resignation is in protest of what they claimed the”Robbing of the Kutebs of their traditional rights to the Takum Chieftaincy.
Most of the elites not only rebuffed the unbundling of the Kingdom, but also rejected in totality the changes in titles, the unbundling of the Kingdom and complete rewriting of the history of the Kingdom to suit aliens to the throne.
It could be recalled that the Ukwe Takum Chieftaincy Tussle has dragged for over 2 decades with people angling to take over the kingdom which was resisted by the Kutebs.
However, with the emergence of Governor Kefas Agbu’s administration, various reform measures including legislative procedures were adopted to ensure changes in the laws creating the chiefdom.
This reforms were not however favourable to the Kutebs who felt the they were robbed and ready to settle for nothing less than a status quo.
The Governor had approved rotation of the rulership of the Kingdom between Kutebs,Jukun and the Chambas Changing the traditional title from “Ukwe Takum” to Chief of Takum.
While various written and verbal protests are trending in both mainstream and social media, Governor Kefas Agbu seem to be behaving the matter has been trying to insist he has done the very best in resolving the age long dispute.
While these protests seem have fallen on the deafening ears, some Kuteb Sons have started resigning from the government and administration of Governor Kefas Agbu.
Below is a letter from one of the appointees who threw in the towel to join his kiths and kins in the resistance movement.
…………..,………………….The Executive Governor of Taraba State, Taraba State Government House, Jalingo Taraba State
Through:
The Secretary to the Government of Taraba State.
RESIGNATION FROM THE VISITATION PANEL TO THE TARABA STATE UNIVERSITY.
I have watched with pain in the heart to see Your Excellency display a level of arrogance that is only equal to that of Herod in Acts Chapter12 in the matter of the Chieftaincy stool in Takum which has wisely been occupied by the two ruling houses of Akenten and Likam since 1914, a date that none of us living now were even conceived, not to talk of been born.
For me, your meddlesomeness in this Traditional stool means that you have no respect to your elders and to you,it’s simply a “bread and butter” affair and that “might is right”. It is a pity that you claim to come from the RoyalFamily, but lack the wisdom to understand the implication of the wrong steps that has informed this misadventure.
I pray that God in his infinite mercy exclude your generation from the implications of this your no Traditional institution in the entire world fall into this misfortune. action.
I pray thatI have decided, after a careful examination of the implications of your actions on my integrity, to resign my membership of the Visitation Panel of the Taraba State University constituted and inaugurated by you on Friday, 5th January, 2024 to cover the period 2010 to 2023, a Panel that I served with all my energy hoping to change the fortunes of Education in Taraba State.
I had hoped that your consultation with some of our elders when you were campaigning for the governorship and the promise that you were a Pastor and from the Royal family and will do the right thing, would be fulfilled. On the strength of this promise, I campaigned in my village, Kwambai, overnight to turn the tide of the election against Honourable Danladi Baido, who was to win (60%) and Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (40%) in the village. This campaign gave you 40%, Baido 20% and Bwacha 20%.I am now left with a short end of the stick and have no choice than to publicly apologise to the good people of Kwambai. I shall quickly do this to rescue my image.
Yours Sincerely,
Musa Fuktur Istifanus
